Happy New Year! Gong Xi Fa Chai!
Welcome to the February 2025 edition of the Funding Strategies newsletter!
|
They have examined the funding
trends that shaped 2024 and highlighted the bright spots and opportunities for
the Australian startup ecosystem in 2025.
|
From our viewpoint we saw a
decrease in funds raised in 2024 compared with 2023 and the majority of that was debt funding compared with equity. We generally believe
things are improving with increases in the stock market and expected a rate cut
albeit the weaker Australian dollar, possible trade issues, and an upcoming
election are all things on the horizon to keep an eye on.
If you
are interested in the statistics on the Australian economy you can find the
latest RBA chart pack here: Chart
Pack | RBA.
|
We also expect M&A activity to increase with the
weaker dollar and we are seeing “inbound” activity from potential acquirers and
investors including corporates and funds.
Please contact us if we can be of assistance to your business.

|
Project Climatetech is a subscription-based, carbon offset platform directed at consumers, exclusively centred on the agriculture industry.
Project Climatetech utilises a unique fractionalisation model to offer part or full carbon credits via subscription direct to consumers and businesses – streamlining the carbon supply chain and allowing carbon credits to be sold at a retail price. The model ensures strong margins for the business and enables additional margin to be reinvested back into the value chain –creating viable new revenue streams for producers to expedite the rate of adoption of sustainable farming practices.

Project Car Share - Update
|
Project Car Share and AA join forces to promote sustainable mobility
In December, Project Car Share announced that 'New
Zealand's favourite on-demand car sharing company and the NZ Automobile
Association (AA), a mainstay in the New Zealand motoring community with a
120-year legacy, have partnered to promote innovative and sustainable mobility
to AA Members."
The partnership, which sees
AA’s 1.8m connections, including 1.1m personal members, able to receive up to
$100 free credit in their first year, will give their members a new way to get
around in Auckland, Wellington and Hamilton.

"No car? No problem!" - Project Car Share Expands in New Zealand
"A new
car-sharing scheme has been launched in Nelson to support efforts to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and increase transport choices for the
community."
"The car-sharing scheme will provide access to a fleet
of nine vehicles based in Nelson city centre. These will include a mix of
electric vehicles and fuel-efficient petrol cars, and allow people to rent a
car rather than paying to own, store and maintain a first or second vehicle.
Members will
be able to rent cars by the minute, hour or day using an app.
The cost to use the
vehicles will start at $18 per hour for non-electric vehicles, and $24 an hour
for an EV. Daily rates are priced at $90 and $120 respectively."

2025 ACBC QLD Chinese Lunar New Year gala dinner
|
Happy Chinese New Year (“Gong
Xi Fa Chai”), the year of
the snake!
Mark attended the ACBC QLD and CCCA
Brisbane Chinese New Year Gala Dinner last week. It was great
to re-connect with business acquaintances and meet new business connections
that are part of the Australian and Chinese business communities.
We have
included a couple of photos from the event. The highlight was the
exciting “face changing or Bian Lian” performer, where the face of the
performer changed multiple time during the performance. Mark was lucky
enough to receive a lucky charm from the Bian Lian performer.
The vibe of
the evening was one of collaboration and looking forward to the year ahead.

During the past 2 months, our Director, M&A, Flora Mok, has been travelling in Hong Kong. She has
attended a number of investment conferences such as the AVCJ Private Equity Forum, the Asian Financial Forum and
Asia Private Equity Forum etc. Flora also had over 100 follow up meetings with
various investors, funders and contacts, including global private equity funds,
private credit funds, investment banks, etc.
The general feedback towards Australian deals
from investors and funders in Hong Kong is positive as the projects and funds,
in general, generate good returns to investors and funders.
At the above conferences, some of the speakers
mentioned what they look at when they evaluate investment projects. Their top priority is the honesty and integrity of the project owners,
borrowers or fund managers which was a view shared by a number of large investors and funders Flora talked to. A
number of the investors and funders stated that they are always happy to look at projects
presented by BlueMount Capital and Funding Strategies as they appreciate our
quality of work.
